I'm working on a historic novel set in WWI Italy. It's my first novel (after a career of creative non-fiction) and I need to keep my eye on the ball. It's time to read the draft written over the summer challenge and that I kept at this fall. And it's time to plot my FINAL revision (even start it thanks to this challenge). GOAL: Will not allow myself to be sucked into the "too busy vortex." How about you?
Yay! So excited for this! I finished my third draft because of the last challenge so I can’t wait for this one!!!
I’m working on a dystopian novel. That’s all I’ll say for now.
My goal is to write at least five days a week. I speed through my last draft (which I really needed to do!) but there were chapters where I wrote entirely in exposition. I was also a little too hard on with myself during the last challenge so this time, I will give myself grace, allow myself to have fun, and I will try and slow and actually draft the scenes I’ve previously only sketched out.
I must be out of my mind but I am in! I feel overwhelmed right now with my writing, along with trying to find someone to sit down with me and show me how to use Substack for a newsletter and getting that all together and, well everything else!
But the thing is I got a lot more writing done over Jennifer's summer challenge and that was busy too. It kept my focus on my draft and I strongly believe it will again. I love this community and appreciate the lively and caring spirit here. Most of this is a safe space. So yeah, I'm in❤️
Looking forward to a new challenge, Jennifer. The Summer Challenge got away from me but no travel planned for the holidays and I've got lots of creative writing projects ongoing, so want to keep the creative flame burning.
Hi Everyone--good to meet all of you on Zoom. I'm in one of Jennifer's studios at Blackbird and, because of an overwhelming year so far, I don't feel comfortable with the structure of the group of essays I'm working on and sharing in Studio. 1 and 2) My project and 6 week goal is to go over all of my essays and put them in some sort of order that feels like I have a bit of control over the book. It may mean lots more writing, revision, the whole nine yards. 3) Before this year, I wrote for two hours every morning five days a week. It is a wonderful practice for me and my intention is to implement that again--I will work on the essays but also my Substack and other writing projects I'm responsible for at the moment. Yesterday, I revised an essay that I want to submit to a journal first and today, I wrote two book reviews for Netgalley as well as attending my 2 hour writing group here in Paris.
