A craft talk on vulnerability and inspiration. On the beautiful and honest 9-11 stories written in the comments section this week. What tripped the lock? Was it talking about death, or the witnessing of death? Or was it the collective nature of the experience juxtaposed against the individual perceptions? Or both?
I find it hard to bring all of the abundance to my work, but when the pieces fall into place and I feel it happening it is remarkable. As a new writer I am trying to summon that strength and then figure out how to replicate the scene as it happened, but it takes a lot of focus; happily the desire seems always to be there!
The abundance I possess is the inventory of my life experiences. All of them – good and evil, sitting there in my memory. Each experience has left an emotional residue on my psyche, causing me to sense a wide range of feelings, from shame and guilt to pride and joy. They are energy, yearning for expression, understanding, healing, and resolution. They can’t be silent, even after decades of ignoring them. I’m pushed to write, to expose my screaming demons for others to read, hoping to make sense and find peace.
