Hi and welcome:
We are reading I Am, I Am, I Am by Maggie O’Farrell and at the level of emotional reaction…that gut-level sense of this book and this writer. And I’ve added this video from our Studio discussion as well as this attachment on “Faux-Emotions” given me by a therapist long, long ago. Use both to help access this exercise.
I’m in my second read and while I don’t necessarily agree with O’Farrell and there are times when I shaking my head at her worldview, that is judgment (the very thing we are instructed not to do), but I can’t help myself and I know you can’t either.
Today, when it comes to this book, I’m at the level of respect.
That’s how it is done. We read. We take note of the emotions arising. We rest. We watch those emotions shift because they will. Feelings, like tides, constantly change.
Let me take inventory:
I started with fear and worry (this was before I even started the book).
First read, moved into 😬😳🙄🫢😕😢🤔😧🤭😂😅😂😵💫😬🙄🤔 (Pretty much in that order), and all that funneled into confusion.
Today: Respect.
Your Turn:
What’s your inventory of reaction? Share in in the comments.
